The Goldbergh standard

Ski Season is back in style as Goldbergh delivers sleek trend-driven Skiwear with a point of difference. Schussing has never looked Chicer

The phrase “functional fashion” is enough to strike fear into any discerning dresser’s mind, but when it comes to activewear this is the holy grail. Paving the way for a more stylish sports-focused future is Goldbergh, whose luxury skiwear is a cut above the rest. Why? Because the innovation at the heart of the Amsterdam-based brand does not compromise on the overall aesthetic, which can best be described as Icelandic chic meets Swiss heritage.

This season, Goldbergh’s inspiration is rooted in a fictional journey from St Moritz to Zermatt on the Glacier Express. Switzerland’s rich landscape informs the pared-back colour palette, dominated by dashes of black and gold, while nostalgic travel paraphernalia is evoked in the vintage-inspired silhouettes. Think old-school athleisure meets modern ski looks or, as brand founders Sandra Peet and Lieke van den Berg say, sports fashion to take women uphill or downtown in style.

Goldbergh acolytes will be able to extol the virtues of the label’s plush down jackets and ultrasoft base layers, but new customers will love the minimalist-to maximalist range of slope-to-apres-ski separates that suit every wardrobe. From the golden-hour tones influenced by the country’s watchmaking to the alpine rose pieces calling to mind local folklore and mountainside picnics, all garments meet the expert Goldbergh standard of fashion. The ’80s disco power looks, in particular, show the amount of research that goes into each seasonal line. The two-tone glitter-infused fabric was custom-made and based on an archive ski suit from the eccentric decade. The combined mission of Peet, a retail expert, and van den Berg, a sportswear designer, tells you all you need to know to proceed to purchase and plan your next adventure. Promising luxury with personality, all the 2009-founded company’s products are made to give women the confidence to go off-piste and take risks. One quilted jacket or soft-shell suit later and you’ll see what they mean. The issue is you’ll want to wear this cutting-edge fashion when you’re not up in the clouds but, according to Goldbergh, why shouldn’t you?
